Idea / thought experimentThis is a concept sketch rather than a shipped project — captured here in its original form.
This is a thought experiment on how a DAO-like structure could facilitate in-person gatherings. Gatherings play a crucial role in building trust and understanding among communities, fostering a sense of shared identity and purpose.
Basic idea: Raise and generate funds and give them away to facilitate irl gatherings
Inspired by the MolochDAO philosophy of contributing capital with the sole intention of giving it all away — in our case, it’s to fund and facilitate gatherings of web3 native communities for the genuine public good.
(Funds Raised) ≤ (Funds Distributed)
Who should join:
- community builders
- Event organizers
- Community evangelists
- Public goods supporters
- Vibes enthusiasts
- Gather masters
The average gathering really only requires minimal funds to get started. Typically, this “startup cost” is for securing a space, getting equipment, snacks and bevs, etc.
Those costs don’t typically exceed $100-5000ish — which one could argue is a small cost considering the incredible upside of the genuine connections achieved in gathering irl.
Gather DAO can help with startup costs and support, making sure gatherings are a success.
Things we can help with:
- Marketing
- Design
- Proposals
- Sponsors
- Logistics
- Operations
- Planning
- Production
Things we could make:
- local/regional sponsors and businesses database
- Event management frameworks, playbooks, tools, resources, templates, etc.
Services we could offer:
- event management
- Marketing and promotion
- Fundraising
- Production
Considerations:
- many of these things could be “bountied” out to engage and financially reward a broader range of web3 natives.
- An aspiration could be to use the dao and its bounty structure to onboard new “users” to web3 by compensating them for their contributions to enabling gatherings.
Initial Governance Considerations:
Buy an NFT, and you get voting privileges — taking a page from Pizza DAO, whereby your nft is your access to the community and decision-making
Use the Prop House framework, whereby people can submit funding proposals, and holders of the NFT can vote for or against it. Voting weight is associated with the number of tokens in possession.
Frictionless access to capital.
Voting
Anyone can submit a gathering proposal for funding or support. Dao members then have the opportunity to vote for or against — majority rules.
Governance Fail Safe = Gather Masters
Initially appointed and later elected who are master events organizers, community leaders, progressive thinkers, and builders entrusted with the best interests of the DAO.
These are the individuals on the multisig and have ultimate veto power, which is only a last resort and only to be used to ensure the safety and longevity of the DAO.
Economics (how we make money)
- initial funding provided by summoners
- Sell NFTs — 100% of funds go to treasury
- Grants funding
- Event services

Benefits for individuals and community gatherings:
Individual benefits:
- Reduced loneliness and social isolation: Humans are social creatures, and regular interaction is crucial for well-being. Gathering in groups helps combat loneliness and isolation, fostering a sense of connection and belonging.
- Improved mental health: Social interaction has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Sharing experiences, receiving support, and feeling connected to others can significantly impact mental health.
- Personal growth and development: By interacting with diverse individuals and perspectives, we gain exposure to new ideas, experiences, and ways of thinking. This can stimulate personal growth, challenge our viewpoints, and broaden our world understanding.
- Building friendships and support networks: Communities provide opportunities to build meaningful relationships and friendships. These connections offer emotional support, encouragement, and a sense of belonging, which can be invaluable during challenging times.
- Enhanced physical health: Studies suggest solid social connections can improve physical health. This may be due to reduced stress, increased physical activity through shared activities, and access to social support for healthy habits.
Community benefits:
- Stronger social bonds and cohesion: Regular gatherings help build trust and understanding among community members, fostering a sense of shared identity and purpose. This more substantial social fabric can lead to greater cooperation, collaboration, and collective action.
- Problem-solving and decision-making: By bringing together diverse perspectives and experiences, communities can collectively address challenges and make informed decisions that benefit everyone.
- Cultural exchange and understanding: Gathering together allows individuals from different backgrounds to interact and learn from each other. This can foster cultural awareness, tolerance, and appreciation for diversity.
- Civic engagement and social change: Communities can be powerful platforms for collective action and advocacy. By coming together, individuals can raise awareness about important issues, advocate for change, and work towards a better future for their community.
- Preserving traditions and cultural heritage: Sharing customs, stories, and traditions through gatherings helps preserve and transmit cultural heritage to future generations.
