Special thanks to agrimony, earth2travis, grin, jake, jihad, julian, martin, s0tric, and many others for the conversations, review, and feedback that helped inform my position.
TL;DRI don't believe we should migrate the token yet. There's still so much we can unlock right here, right now.
We're at a Pivotal Moment
The conversation around migrating $HIGHER from Base to Ethereum mainnet reflects something positive: the network is alive. People are thinking long-term. They're serious about what comes next. That alone is worth celebrating.
But momentum is not the same as direction.
Before we debate logistics, we need alignment on purpose.
What are we building toward?
What makes Higher unique?
What kind of network do we want to become?
"Without alignment on purpose, nothing else matters."
— community feedback
This isn't about resisting change. It's about ensuring that the next step strengthens the foundation, not shifts it mid-build.
Why Migrate?
Let's give the pro-migration case its due:
- Cultural alignment — Ethereum mainnet is seen as more legitimate, trusted, and "real."
- Perception of Base — It feels corporate to some, and too closely tied to Coinbase.
- Cleaner architecture — Mainnet promises no fees, no governance overhead, and a kind of neutrality.
This vision of neutrality, durability, and decentralization is appealing — especially for a headless brand.
But as compelling as it sounds, it's not enough. Because vision without velocity is just vapor.
We're not there yet, and rushing might cost us more than we gain.
Why Pause?
We are still early. Early in coordination, early in tooling, and early in developing a shared narrative that binds the network together. That matters because context shapes outcomes.
In that light, migrating the token now doesn't feel like a leap forward; it feels lateral. It introduces real costs, unclear upside, and the risk of fracturing momentum at a moment when focus and cohesion are more valuable than change for its own sake.
Just as importantly, it's not yet clear what migration actually solves. What meaningful capability does it unlock that we cannot access today? Who benefits immediately, and how would we measure whether the move was successful?
Until those questions have clear, widely shared answers, the default should be to stay and build. Migration should follow momentum, not attempt to manufacture it.
Our Cultural Substrate Still Matters
$HIGHER didn't emerge in isolation. It was born within and helped shape the cultural ecosystems of Base and Farcaster. That origin matters. As community member @s0tric put it, "Higher is part of Farcaster and Base cultural code."
The recent Neynar acquisition underscores this moment. It's more than a business deal; it's a creative signal. A call for builders, artists, and collectives to lead the next wave not by relocating, but by showing what's possible from within.
Higher has a real opportunity to be that example. To become a collective that actively supports innovation by testing prototypes, amplifying experiments, and championing network creativity.
We don't need to move to prove we belong. We can turn $HIGHER into the cultural connective tissue for development, squads, tools, and beyond. This isn't abstract vision, it's work already in motion.
Governance Isn't a Dirty Word
Some have argued that $HIGHER wasn't originally designed for DAO infrastructure. They're right. But no token launches fully formed. Not even Ethereum. ETH didn't begin with EIP-1559, rollups, or DAOs. It evolved over time.
So can we.
If we truly believe Higher is a headless brand, then migration shouldn't be assumed. It should be earned through clarity, coordination, and community consensus.
This isn't about rewriting our origin story. It's about upgrading the operating system to support what comes next.
We have a real opportunity to co-design a lightweight, values-aligned layer of stewardship – one that reflects what makes Higher unique: human-led, experimental, and culture-driven.
That might take the form of:
- Staking systems built for autonomy, where contributors can "walk away" and the system continues
- Transparent governance tools, potentially AI-augmented, that help us move fast and clearly
- Incentive structures that reward active participation and meaningful progress
- LP fee flows redirected into ecosystem growth and creative output
"Decentralization doesn't mean abandonment. It means resilience."
— community feedback
The bigger we dream, the more structure we'll need; not to constrain creativity, but to sustain it.
Strength Through Action, Not Architecture
There's a healthy instinct among some in the community to make Higher feel more neutral, simple, and durable. I understand that, and in many ways, I share it. But durability isn't defined by the chain a token lives on. It's defined by the activity it enables.
Neutrality alone doesn't build momentum. Simplicity doesn't generate value. What matters most is motion – networks that are moving, building, creating, coordinating.
The strongest foundation we can offer isn't technical perfection. It's proof of work.
Let's focus on what we can build with $HIGHER today before deciding to rebuild it elsewhere.
Recent reflections from Ethereum's own builders reinforce this shift. Layer 2s are no longer defined by how well they "extend" Ethereum. The question now is: what new value do they add? Not in throughput or gas savings, but in what they uniquely enable — culturally, socially, experientially.
That's where Higher already excels. We don't need to become more like mainnet. We need to become more like ourselves.
What Makes Higher... Higher?
Higher 1.0 was a spark — a meme, a token, a movement. It gave us language to rally around, an aesthetic to evolve, and a belief to share. It spread not through structure, but through spirit.
Higher 2.0 isn't a rebrand; it's a refocus. A shift from emergence to coordination. From potential to propulsion. This next chapter should be about turning individual effort into collective energy. About taking what we've already built, community, culture, and code, and finding new ways to move it forward together.
Across the network, three creative archetypes have emerged: builders, makers, and creators. Builders write the code. Makers craft the physical. Creators shape the narrative, the art, the media, the mood.
Each brings something valuable into the world. Their materials differ, but their intent is shared: to make something real.
Alone, they create value. Aligned, they generate momentum.
This is where "Higher Together" becomes more than a slogan.
It becomes a structure. A system. A way forward.
What's Possible Right Now
We don't need migration to grow.
What we need is motion, momentum, and participation—and all of that is possible right now, right here.
There are already paths we can walk to strengthen the network today:
- We can launch native tools and miniapps that put $HIGHER to work.
- We can design reward loops that recycle value back into the ecosystem.
- We can build opt-in, values-aligned contribution flows that reward effort over speculation.
- We can prototype fees, staking, and incentive mechanics that support contributors, not just holders.
- We can support the formation of new creator squads, each with its own focus, contributing back to the network.
Growth doesn't require relocation. It requires activation.
Let's prove the value of the network and let the chain want us.
If migration makes sense someday, it shouldn't be a debate – it should be a celebration.
Where I Land (For Now)
Staying on Base keeps us aligned with the culture that shaped us. It's cheaper to experiment, easier to build, and still full of untapped potential.
Migration isn't off the table. But coordination should come first. We need clarity, momentum, and real consensus before making an irreversible move.
Let's focus on building utility like creative squads, native tools, and shared infrastructure that gives people a reason to care about $HIGHER.
Let's design stewardship systems that reflect our values, informed by years of decentralized governance experience, shaped by real-world experiments, and grounded in the wisdom already present in this community.
And above all, let's continue to support the full spectrum of network archetypes: Builders, Makers, and Creators – each contributing in their own way to the movement.
We don't need to be perfect. We need to stay weird, optimistic, and culture-forward.
That's our edge. Let's protect it.
About Me
Over the past few years, I've played a few roles across the Higher ecosystem, helping develop Higher Market, supporting our FarCon presence, recently organizing the Higher Book Club, and showing up daily as a holder and believer.
It's been a labor of love. Not just for a project, but for a network of people who see the same potential I do.
I've poured time, care, and conviction into Higher because I believe we're building something meaningful, and truthfully, I believe we're only getting started.
We don't need to migrate to prove we're building something real.
We need to build something real, and let that speak for itself.
There's no rush.
And there is no finish line.
Only the next step, taken together.
